Nikola Stelmach was a guest at “Rector's Coffee with a Graduate”
At a meeting with UITM Rector Dr. hab. Andrzej Rozmus, Professor of UITM, and Vice Rector for Teaching Dr. Barbara Przywara, Nikola Stelmach talked about the prospects in her field – The nursing and midwifery profession currently has very promising prospects, as the demand for these professions continues to grow. An aging population is creating more demand for health services, which is significantly influencing the development of this sector. An additional advantage is the ever-increasing salary increases and the possibility of subsidies for specializations or refresher courses, which encourages young people to take up this field of education.
Working in these professions offers great opportunities for professional development. We can gain additional qualifications in various specialties, such as neonatology, oncology or anesthesiology. Master’s and doctoral studies open the way to academic work, and numerous courses and training allow us to develop our interests and deepen our competencies,” adds Nikola Stelmach.
Studies allows you to learn about various nursing specialties, which allows you to make an informed choice of your professional path. Nursing graduates are well prepared to work in a demanding medical environment and are ready for further professional development.
Nursing studies at UITM provided me with comprehensive preparation both theoretically and practically. The study program included such subjects as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and psychology, which provide a solid factual foundation. Thanks to them, I understood the structure and functioning of the human body, learned about the mechanisms of diseases and gained knowledge about the action and dosage of drugs. Great emphasis was also placed on the practical aspects of learning. Prior to clinical practice, we took classes in nursing skills labs, where we practiced basic procedures and techniques in simulated conditions. We completed internships in hospitals, clinics, hospices and other medical facilities, which allowed me to gain experience in a variety of environments – the graduate emphasized.
Internships were conducted under the supervision of practical training supervisors, who supported the acquisition of skills. As a result, students were able to learn how to plan and document nursing care, as well as how to make decisions in everyday work situations. In her spare time, Nikola Stelmach continues to increase her competencies, and has recently taken courses in instrumentation, spirometry and neonatal CPR.
UITM alumni meetings with the Rector’s Authorities are aimed at maintaining ties, cooperation in many common areas, i.e. business lodges, student workshops, student internships, projects and business collaborations, as well as developing the activities of the Alumni Club.
